Tampa Board Certified Lawyer

St. Petersburg Workers' Compensation Specialist

A board certified attorney has to meet the requirements of the Florida Bar Association, including involvement in numerous trials, peer review by attorneys and judges, and the passing of a certification exam. Only those attorneys who are board certified can represent themselves as a specialist in an area of the law.

Our founding attorney, Christopher L. Petruccelli, became board certified in workers' compensation law in 2003, and he was recertified in 2008. Board certification ensures that your lawyer has a thorough understanding of a focused area of the law, and has received the respect and acknowledgement of his or her peers.

The Florida Bar Association has very strict guidelines regarding board certification. There are five criteria that must be met:

  • A minimum of five years in law practice
  • A satisfactory showing of substantial involvement in the field of law for which certification is sought
  • A passing grade on the examination required of all applicants
  • Satisfactory peer review assessment of competence in the specialty field, as well as character, ethics and professionalism in the practice of law
  • Satisfaction of the certification area's continuing legal education (CLE) requirements*

Board certification in a specific area requires extra effort for an attorney's competence and experience to be evaluated. Certification is the highest level of evaluation by the Florida bar in an area of the law. Florida offers certification in 24 areas, and only 5 percent of practicing attorneys are certified in a specialty area.
